Welcome to BGHS Preschool!

Battle Ground High School Preschool is located inside Battle Ground High School and serves children ages 3-5 in a setting with high school students. You may ask why a lab setting in a high school with high school students?

Young children will be able to interact with other young children their own age, while at the same time our high school students learn the many strategies of teaching children. High school students help prepare preschoolers as they reach their milestones. High school students also learn developmentally appropriate practices to further their education and career goals.

High School Students

High school students wishing to obtain knowledge in the early childhood education field may enroll in the Battle Ground High School child development classes. They will receive instruction on Mondays and Fridays by the high school teacher and then join preschool sessions on Tuesday through Thursday. During their classroom time they will be learning different stages of development, developmentally appropriate practices and teaching strategies. In addition to coursework they will have the opportunity to be trained in First Aid, CPR and Food Handlers. High school students will also be introduced to the State Training And Registry System (also known as STARS) certification process for child care providers.

Students who complete both child development classes will have the opportunity to leave the program with their STARS certification, which will enable the students to be employable in child care or preschool settings in the community. They will also be eligible for Clark College credit if they have received a B or better grade in the child development classes.
