Summer School Credit Recovery

How does Summer School work?
Summer school classes are available Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from  July 8, 2019 to August 16, 2019. Summer school classes are online, self-paced and can be accessed at home any time beginning July 8th. Students can come to the BGHS Career Center for support on Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and math and English tutoring is available. During the last three days (Aug 14-16), hours are extended to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for testing.

Who is eligible?
Any enrolled Battle Ground Public School high school student with a failed high school course (or courses) is eligible to attend. Students aged 21 and over must have turned 21 on or before Sep 1, 2018.

How much does Summer School cost?
Summer school tuition is $150.00 for all students. The tuition covers all failed classes completed between July 8-August 16, 2019. Payment can be made with cash, check, debit or credit card.

24-Credit Diploma Fee Waiver: Students in the graduating classes of 2021 and 2022 that have failed a core course in math, English, social studies or science qualify for a fee waiver and will only need to pay a $15 application fee. Qualifying students can recover as many core courses as needed through this waiver.

How do I Register for Summer School?
Summer school registration is June 25-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Battle Ground High School’s Career Center at 300 W Main St, Battle Ground, WA 98604. Registration and payment must be submitted in person. Summer school tuition is non-refundable except if it has been determined that a student is ineligible. Once an updated transcript has been reviewed indicating a student does not need the credit recovery program, the fee is 100% refundable.

How is Summer School graded?
Grading is “P” for PASS only. No letter grades are given. Partial class progress is not retained beyond August 16, 2019.

Which classes are available for Summer School?
Core classes and some electives are offered during summer school. Students with an IEP must have approval from their Special Education instructor to take Foundations courses. Without this pre-approval, all students will be enrolled in grade level courses.

What if my account gets locked during Summer School?
Students have up to three attempts to earn 70% or better on any quiz/test to progress. After three failed attempts, summer school staff must be contacted to reset the class during support hours.

How do I take my final exam and earn credit?
After a course is completed, the final exam must be proctored in BGHS’ Career Center during posted hours. The minimum score for credit is 60%. Two final exam retakes may be scheduled if necessary. After a third failed final exam attempt, the student will be re-enrolled in the class. No online content assistance is allowed during the final exam. Hand-written notes and printed study guides from the online class may be allowed.

What happens on August 16, 2019 at 5 p.m.?
Completed credit recovery course credits are sent to district Registrars. All accounts are closed and become inaccessible. Unfinished Summer school class progress is permanently lost. Unfinished summer school classes do not continue beyond August 16, 2019 at 5 p.m. for ANY reason.
