Teacher certified by National Board
March 15, 2023
Congratulations to Don Willson, who earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. This certification, well-respected in K-12 education, signifies that Willson is among educators who have met the highest standards in their profession, including 46 of his Battle Ground National Board-certified colleagues.
Willson has taught wood design at Battle Ground High School since 2018. Before coming to Battle Ground, he taught in the Lake Chelan and San Juan Islands school districts and previously worked for Doctors Without Borders and in residential construction. He has a master’s degree in education.
Obtaining certification requires up to 400 hours of work, including passing a content knowledge exam, submitting for review samples of student work and the candidate’s feedback, filming lessons for evaluation and compiling a portfolio of self-reflection pieces. “It really challenged me to become a better teacher,” he said.
