If the levy is approved, approximately 22% of the money would go toward school safety. Levy dollars would help pay for safety-focused positions including nurses; counselors; assistant principals, who oversee student discipline, among several more areas; and crossing guards.
State funding alone pays for two security positions to cover 19 schools and more than 13,000 students.
Student enrollment has increased by 10.25% since the last educational programs and operations levy was approved. Enrollment is projected to reach 14,500 students by the year 2033. More students means increased operating expenses.
News to know
School calendar adjustment for Dec. 17 closure
As a result of the closure of all schools on Dec. 17, 2025, BGPS will use the first snow makeup day on the calendar. Schools will now be open on Friday, March 13, 2026. Students should attend school that day. Please note that any additional weather-related closures will require more changes to the calendar.
2026-27 school calendar approved
The district’s board of directors recently approved next year’s academic calendar. Key dates include:
First day of school: Sept. 1, 2026
Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-27
Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 1, 2027
Spring break: April 5-9
Last day of school: June 15 (unless there are weather-related closures that must be made up at the end of the school year)
Late starts and waiver/inservice days may be added at a later date.
February school meals
School lunch menus for February are available online. Meals can be paid through InTouch Receipting.
National School Counseling Week
This week highlights the essential contributions of school counselors and the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success and plan for their careers. From student mental health support to academic guidance (and many more areas), these levy-supported positions are essential to student success. This week and always, take a moment to thank a school counselor!
First semester report cards
Your child’s report card and individualized education program progress report (if applicable) will be available to view in Skyward later this week. Get instructions for viewing these items in your child's portfolio. Accessing the portfolio in a web browser rather than the Skyward mobile app is recommended for the best viewing experience.
Paper report cards will not be mailed to every family by default as in past years but will still be available if requested. Transitional Kindergarten and kindergarten reports will be sent home in backpacks. Some alternative learning schools will share grades/progress updates via different systems.
Measles activity in Clark County
Although no measles cases have been identified in BGPS schools at this time, we want to prepare families for the possibility of cases spreading to our district. Due to the contagious nature of the disease, a measles case in school could result in students and staff having to stay home from school for at least 21 days if they have not provided documentation of measles immunity. Clark County Public Health may direct school districts to take this action to prevent transmission and reduce the risk of exposure to measles. Find out what documentation will be required for students if there is a case and how you can check on your child’s records. Families who have not provided evidence of their child’s measles immunity will receive a separate message with information about next steps.
